Need an Orthodontist in Winnipeg? Consider Calling Our General Dentists
Would you like to have straighter teeth and a better bite? Who wouldn't, right? When you're searching for an orthodontist in Winnipeg, remember the general dentists at Pearl Family Dental Care and Ellice Dental Group can also take care of your dental needs.
We can help diagnose, prevent and treat a number of dental and facial irregularities through orthodontic care. We are pleased to offer Invisalign® but we can also advise you on the type of treatment you or your child may need, including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, clear aligners, palatal expanders and other dental appliances.
Our dentists will design a treatment plan that meets your unique needs. Each patient’s smile is different and will require customized orthodontic treatment to bring his or her teeth, lips and jaws into the proper alignment for more facial balance and an improved appearance.
Why Orthodontics Is Important
Many people think straightening teeth is the only benefit or purpose of orthodontics. But any dentist or orthodontist in Winnipeg will tell you it's intended for much more than that! Left untreated, orthodontic problems can cause tooth decay, bone destruction and gum disease. And if you're not able to thoroughly chew your food because of the improper positioning of your teeth, you're more susceptible of choking and a range of digestive issues. You may not be receiving the right amount of nutrition because of your eating habits, putting your health at risk.
Having a bad bite is also more than an aesthetic problem. It can impair your speech, impact your breathing and lead to tooth loss and other dental injuries. That's why it's so important to seek out orthodontic treatment if it's needed. Braces and other types of orthodontics have become more affordable in recent years and many options are available. Payment plans are also very common at dental offices. Talk with a dentist at Winnipeg’s Ellice Dental Group or Pearl Family Dental Care to learn more.
Traditional Braces or Invisalign®?
Are traditional braces right for you? Should you try Invisalign® instead? To put it into better context for you, metal braces are irremovable and more effective for treating complex dental issues, like when teeth need to be shifted vertically or the canines need to be rotated. And since traditional braces contain wires and metal brackets, they're not recommended for patients who regularly play contact sports. Mouth guards for people with braces are available, but there is a higher risk of mouth injuries due to the metal material.
Clear, removable braces like Invisalign® are easier to clean and, because they don’t have wires, cause less discomfort. Invisalign®, however, is not ideal for patients with bridgework or back tooth bite issues. This system also requires frequent visits to your dentist and you must be committed to wearing the aligners 22 to 24 hours a day for an average of 6 to 8 months, though this time frame will vary per your unique situation.
Many patients receive braces between the ages of 10 to 14, although more and more people are now wearing braces at an older age, proving it's never too late to improve your smile! When you book an appointment with Ellice Dental Group or Pearl Family Dental Care, we can discuss what type of orthodontic treatment is right for you.
